About Me...

Ian Lawler has toured and recorded with numerous bands throughout his career. A truly versatile musician, Ian has performed across the country and around the world, playing Pop, Rock, Country, Blues, Jazz, Funk, Soul, Neo-Soul, R&B, Hip-Hop, and World music. He has shared stages with legendary performers, including Herbie Hancock, Chaka Khan, Joshua Redman, Jack DeJohnette, Christian McBride, Dr. John, Mayer Hawthorne, Frankie Beverly, and Arrested Development. Ian is featured on Arrested Development’s album, “Among the Trees,” as well as “Speech’s Best” and “The Vagabond” by Grammy-winning artist, Speech Thomas. Ian also released his own album, “Future Nostalgia,” which he wrote, arranged, performed, and produced. For the last 10 years, Ian has been performing weekly with Intensity Band, one of DFW’s top party bands, and the winner of numerous “Best Band” awards from the American Association of Certified Wedding Planners.

Ian has been teaching guitar lessons for nearly 30 years. Since graduating from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in “Creative Performing Arts”, he has gone on to teach private lessons at several different guitar studios, music theory classes at the University of Michigan, guitar classes at the Covenant School, and band classes through the National Guitar Workshop and the Charlottesville Rock Academy.

 

Whether you want to learn your favorite songs, music theory, songwriting, improvisation, ear training, sight-reading, or just improve your technique and ability, Ian will cater the lesson to you. He plays and teaches “everything but classical,” but specializes in Pop, Rock, Blues, Jazz, Funk, Soul, Fusion, Rockabilly, Surf, Country, and Reggae.
