Ben Houghton

Drums; Bass Guitar

Ben is currently in his 8th year of teaching after graduating from The University of Texas at Austin where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Studies studying Percussion with Thomas Burritt and Tony Edwards. During his time at UT, Mr. Houghton was a member of the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble, New Music Ensemble, Pep Band, and The University of Texas Longhorn Band.

After graduating, Mr. Houghton began his teaching career in Temple ISD where he served as Director of Percussion for 3 years. During his tenure, the percussion program cultivated and maintained a standard of excellence, had strong growth, and was awarded the second largest grant in district history to vastly expand its electronic percussion equipment.

Most recently, Mr. Houghton was the Director of Percussion for Robinson ISD and Percussion Specialist for Prosper ISD. There the programs had many students successfully participate in the All-Region process, including multiple All-Area and All-State percussionists. Mr. Houghton was also a member of The Cadets Drum Corps that received the Bronze Medal and the Fred Sanford Award for High Percussion at the 2013 DCI World Championship Finals.

Outside of teaching, Mr. Houghton enjoys watching basketball, Formula 1, riding his bike, playing bass guitar, and spending time with his family and friends.
