Practice Challenge, Fall 2025:  Here’s what you need to know:

Week 1: Fall Practice Challenge | Here’s What You Need to Know

  •  Partnership and Habits are our focus this semester.  The partnership between teachers, students and parents to help your student grow, and building musical growth as a habit in your student’s daily routine.

Here’s the plan:

Each week, students and parents will be invited to complete simple practice challenges — things like fun practice games we’re going to share, and challenges bringing focused attention on not just what to practice, but how to practice effectively.

To partner with you, we’ll release a new blog and vlog posts each week, highlighting ideas designed to help build stronger and more effective practice habits at home.

And here’s how we’re going to celebrate progress:

We’re excited to introduce Melody, our studio’s Practice Tree! You’ll see her growing in the lobby of each campus, layer by layer, as we build stronger roots in healthy practice habits together.

  • Every session practiced, every challenge completed, every parent cheer adds a new leaf to Melody’s branches.  And you can start right now – put a parent  green leaf up for watching this video, and your student can put a red leaf up if you tell them about this challenge to get started.

By recital week, Melody will be full of colorful leaves — a living reminder that when we practice with consistency and encouragement, our music grows beautifully.

Music & ADHD: The Secret Focus Tool for Gifted Kids

Music doesn’t just float in the background — it gives the brain a workout. It activates multiple regions at the same time: the parts that handle focus, memory, and emotional regulation all light up together. That’s especially helpful for ADHD brains, which thrive when there’s enough stimulation to keep them engaged without tipping over into distraction.

Growth Mindset in Practice

These days, growth mindset has become something of a buzzword, but it’s an incredibly useful concept for both parents and teachers. A growth mindset is simply the belief that you can get better at something through effort and practice. The opposite is a fixed mindset — the idea that “I’m just not good at that” or “I’m not musical.”

Listening – The Secret to Better Music Practice

I want to talk about a part of practice that’s often completely forgotten — listening. This can be the biggest difference between musical households and non-musical ones. When people say, “Oh, I came from a musical family,” what they usually mean is that music was played and listened to at home. Those two things go hand-in-hand.
